Born and raised in Frankfurt Germany, Birgit is married to Deryl Wingate, also on the team, who retired from the Army in 2001. They have three grown children. Birgit and Deryl moved frequently during Deryl’s military career, but in 2001, they settled in Arlington, Texas. Birgit started with MARK-9 as a FAS team member in February 2002. In July 2002, she brought Ali on the team to train for SAR. After a hard two years of training, Ali and Birgit certified. Birgit's hobbies are knitting, sewing, painting, and computer graphics.
