Fleta and her husband Max founded the team in March, 1996, after spending a year training Saber, MARK-9's first dog and Fleta's first partner, with whom she worked for 9 years. She currently works as a canine handler with her second partner, Misty; Fleta also does search management and trained both accelerant detection dogs currently in service with Dallas Fire Department.

Fleta spends her workweek handling day-to-day operations for MARK-9. She is the mother of 3 children and grandmother of 6. In her free time she enjoys sewing, quilting, handwork and reading.
