Huckleberry

Huckleberry is a male Coonhound, born March 1996, who was rescued from the pound by his handler, Shelley Avila. Huck was certified in Wilderness, Urban, Disaster, Water Search, Cadaver Recovery, Article, Scent Discrimination and Basic Trailing. During his career, he was very active in children's education, as well as search and rescue, and was known for his distinctive bay, a common trait of Coonhounds. Huck is an example of a rescued dog that gave back to his community and rescued others. Tragically after a four-year career, Huck was struck by an automobile and lost a leg. Retiring from SAR afterward, he lived the good life for years afterward, where his favorite pastimes were popping bubbles, wrestling with his handler's son, and tormenting the family cat. We are richer for having had Huck a part of MARK-9 and remember him with affection and tremendous respect.
