Kathy Ivy joined the team in June 2001 with Sampson, a Belgian Malinois. Sampson was unable to continue with his search training, and in December of 2001, Kathy began training Bonnie, another Belgian Malinois. During her time with MARK-9, Kathy dated and married Dallas firefighter Matt Ivy, who also joined MARK-9 as a FAS team member. Kathy died in an automobile accident in June 2004. Her dog Bonnie died in August 2005. We remember Kathy with great affection — her solid presence at presentations for children and the elderly, her wonderful work on a rapel line, and her pleasure and pride in her search dog, Bonnie. Bonnie's pup, Valkyrei, continues this legacy as she trains with MARK-9.
